We have two mountain bikes for rent while you stay at our B&B. They are 21 speed bicycles that are perfect for leisurely rides on the many roads and pathways in the area. This can be a great way to see parts of Zihuatanejo that many tourists don't see while staying active on your vacation.
There are several paths and hiking trails that we can recommend in the area to see the beauty of the surrounding hillsides and beaches.
The flowers are most bright and ubiquitous in the rainy season but there are flowers of all kinds almost all year around.
NIGHT LIFE (PARTICULARLY LGBT)
Zihuatanejo isn't necessarily a big party town, but there are certainly options for all who want to go out and enjoy some tequila, beer, and dance as you desire. We specialize in helping our LGBT clientele find the local places where LGBT people are particularly welcome.
Zihuatanejo and the Mexican Pacific coast are huge nesting areas for various species of sea turtles. We can connect you with one of the great local organizations that protects and releases baby turtles in the area. You can learn about the sea turtles and how you can help protect them and participate in releasing baby turtles.
We are lucky to have a large population of whales who come to our coast line for the winter and give birth. We can help arrange a whale watching tour with one of the responsible tour companies in the area so that you can safely and responsibly observe these majestic creatures.
Zihuatanejo Pride in 2018 is July 7th and 8th. The LGBTQ local LGBTQ community is staging a march and other events to further the rights of the community and to promote tourism in the area. Casa Arcoiris Zihuatanejo is proud to sponsor the event and to full support the local community. There will be several events and a march. We are offering 3 nights for the price of 2 for this weekend.
There is a new gay owned and operated bar in downtown Zihuatanejo along the "Paseo de Pescadors". It is located along the waterfront down towards the municipal pier. There are great tables outside the bar to sit, drink, and people watch.
The interior of the bar is small but lends itself well to socializing and watching the live music shows that often perform here. The drinks are reasonably priced and the decor is welcoming.
The day of the dead will be celebrated October 31st- November 2nd in 2018. Here in Zihuatanejo/Ixtapa there are marches, street decorations and various other events to mark the holiday. El "Dia de los muertos" es meant to be a time for remembering dead family members and in honoring them. It is a tradition that goes back to pre-hispanic times and was modified by the Catholic church to be incorporated into All-saints day.
January 10-13, 2019 is the dates for the International Tequila Blues festival here in Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo. It looks like they have quite a few bands lined up and it should be fun.
"Now joining Jenie Thai and Andrew Scott, The Dahl Brothers with their Blues Brothers show and multi-instrument talents, and all our other amazing performers from Mexico and Canada, we’ve got enough great music to keep Festival attendees still asking for more when the final notes are played on Sunday, January 13 on the Blues Kruise 4 Kids."
The concert will be on the beach in Ixtapa which should make for a beautiful backdrop for this event.
The forest around our place supports many different kinds of wildlife. One of the more stunning animals are the green iguanas. They eat many of the wild fruits and greens of the area. We have many wild ciruela trees and they love to eat the fruit. They will sometimes pass in front of Iguana Room but you can get a better view of them from Pez Vela.
